When attempting to scan or coppier neither function will work. On the screen all I see is color stripes looking like pin stripes when attempt to scan. When I try to copy the page is either black or has black and white streaks. I have tried turning the system off then back on. I have also unplugged and waited then plugged back in with no success. I have re-installed the software still to no avail. This printer is approx 1 yr. old.
After a new hard drive & fresh install of Windows 10, 64 bit I can't get the software to install. The driver is there, Windows properly recognizes the scanner and it works fine with the Windows Fax & Scan utility.
I downloaded and installed the full setup_full_G4050_140_220.exe. It acts like it installs fine, goes through all the steps, says it's complete but there's no software there.
I ran it again, selected "Uninstall", & then "Choose which HP products to uninstall" and there is nothing found.
Rebooted & installed again. Same result. Goes through the process, gives me the Installation Complete dialog box but still no software found on the PC. I confirmed it's not installed by going to the Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program and the only HP software is for my Officejet 8100.
The sole purpose for this scanner is to archive slides and negatives to without the software it's useless to me. It worked fine on Windows 10 prior to the new hard drive so I don't understand why I can't get the software to install properly. Please Help!
Good day!..
I have the same problem, when I utilize a 600dpi for multiple page documents, it says that the ADF tray is open. But if the resolution is 200/300dpi, the scanning would push through.
Please do help..
Hi, thanks in advance for any help.
I beg you to read all of the steps I have taken already before responding as I am already in a murderous state of mind given that techs keep telling me to do the same things over and over and over.
I apologize for the cranky intro. I desperately need this fixed to scan documents to work while I'm ill.
Problem: HP Envy 4502 cannot wirelessly scan to my Dell XPS 15 9506 laptop running windows 10 64 bit.
* I can copy and print.
* Dell can see (i.e., HP Envy 4502 shows in Control Panel) the printer, and printer can see computer (shows in the list on front panel of printer.)
* Doesn't matter if scan is initiated from printer or computer, I get the same strange error. It looks like a dialog box from Windows 3.1 - kindy blurry and smallish - it states "HP Envy 4500 series not found."
Steps taken:
* reinstalled the printer driver
* ran the troubleshooter (from the driver, right click) that finds no errors
* turned off the modem/printer/computer and restarted modem/printer/computer
* ran the HP print and Scan doctor - no help
* moved the printer away from all other electronics. The printer is generally 10 feet from the computer in the same room.
* ripped out the printer drivers completely and reinstalled and ran the Wireless setup wizard successfully (it sees the computer)
Nothing has changed the error.
The laptop is only about 2 months old. My prior HP Pavilion had no problem scanning to the printer running Windows 7. That computer was broken by the movers.
The laptop USED TO BE ABLE TO SCAN UNTIL I SIGNED UP FOR AND INSTALLED THE HP INK PROGRAM. I asked them for tech support on the issue - did they know of any problem- but they did not and could not solve the problem. They told me to calll Dell....(who blames HP....). I don't how to remove "Wireless Direct" nor do I know if it is the actual problem. It could be coincidental as I do not scan often enough to correlate directly this chnage with the failure.
I have not tried scanning using Ethernet because I didn't see the point - I live in a strange apartment and am disabled so connecting physically to the printer for every scan would be... incredibly inconvenient. I would just buy a new printer. But I can connect for troubleshooting or for a fix is that's needed.
Again, the computer can PRINT but cannot SCAN only.
THANK YOU FOR READING!
-Cranky Kate
The error message is "scanner problem. Turn the printer off and then turn it on again. If the problem persists, the scanner has been damaged and cannot copy or scan".
I have followed the instructions and it still does not work properly.
Hi!
How do I change the default scan file name when I save the file please?
For the past two years every time I use the scan, and then save, the default is the same file name, from a scanned expense receipt from 2015 for a business I no longer work for!
How do I change that file name it defaults to? See https://www.screencast.com/t/s77x1XSLkU2F for a screengrab of the file I see each time I save a scan.
Thanks.
Hiya, does anyone know if I can fax directly from my iPad rather than print what I need to fax and then manually fax it? I know I know who faxes right!? Wish that decision was up to me, but unfortunately my clients want faxes....

Printer connected by USB cable. Printing normal, Copying Normal. Scanning rejected as connection not established. Ran the "Print & Scan Doctor 4.9 (for Vista). First 5 items on check list OK. Scan stalled at "HP Twain Scan".
How can I proceed?

how top scan multiple pages and have them all be in 1 file
Thought finding such a simple answer would be easy, but not the case.
Does Envy 7643 have the feature of duplex scanning documents from ADF?
I am unable to scan through my wireless connection. I am able to print just fine. The utility page asks that I select a device but none are listed.
Not sure even where to begin with this.
Thanks for any help.
Our office used to use an "HP Officejet Pro X576dw", but upgraded to the "MFP M426f-M427f".
It used to be that whenever I wanted to scan something all I had to do was go to the printer and and put the paper(s) on the top loading feeder and press the buttons to tell which computer to scan the document(s) to and the printer would do it. I then could take the papers with me before I left the printing room.
Now, I have to go to the printer, load the paper, tell it where to scan, walk back to my computer and select an option from WSD, go back to the printer to grab the document(s), and then come back to my computer.
The reason for this is with the X576dw used a program called HP "ScantoPC", but the MFP M426f-M427f is using "WSD".
I spent 5 hours yesterday off the clock trying to get this thing to work and could not get it to work.
Is it possible to use the HP program "ScantoPC" with the MFP M426f-M427f or not?
I have re-installed using the disc, as well as the most up to date firmware on the official website several times and it will not work.
Someone please help, this is taking much unecessary time out of my work day to go back and forth to the printing room like this.
Recent upgrade to Windows 10, Uploaded new Drivers from HP that fixed problem of the wireless function always showing "Offline". Now the fax always rings busy when I try and fax. I checked the phone lines and they work. I am stumped!
Photosmart 5515 won’t scan via WiFi, but printing is fine via WiFi (scan is fine via USB cable).
WiFi scanning worked fine with old Samsung laptop running windows 10, but have problem on new Lenovo Yoga 910 running same version of Windows 10.
Have run “HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.1” --> Finds printer ok, then I select “fix scanning” --> Actually does a scan as part of the process “finding and fixing problems” and then displays --> “windows scan issues fixed” and [Windows (WIA) scan] shows white-spanner-in-blue-circle symbol --> BUT, when select “test scan”, get pop-up: "scanner unreachable: scanner communication cannot be established"
Get same popup when attempt scan to computer from the printer.
Then tried from HP forum:
See below for summary of the instructions given --> I tried everything; steps 1 to 9, but nothing helped (step 9: tried Windows “scan and fax app” and while it attempted to connect, got popup saying “could not complete scan”)
Step 1: Confirm if the issue is also printing-related.
If you have a connection issue when scanning only, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Restart devices and check driver scan settings
Restarting the computer and printer can restore the lost scan connection.
If the error persists, continue to the next step.
Step 3: Check the network and printer connection status
If the error persists, continue to the next step.
Step 4: Run the Print and Scan Doctor (please see results described above)
HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing problems.
After the Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Fix Scanning to review a list of issues and fixes.
Step 5: Uninstall the printer software
Resolve scan connection issues by uninstalling the printer software before reinstalling the latest driver.
Do not disconnect the printer from the network when uninstalling the software.
Continue to the next step.
Step 6: Reinstall the HP software
Go to HP Customer Support to download the most current version of the full feature software for your printer.
NOTE:
As an alternative, you can use the software disc if it supports the operating system installed on your computer.
If the error persists, continue to the next step.
Step 7: Check Windows Image Acquisition settings
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) is a service in the Windows operating system that supports communication between the computer and scanners. If WIA is not activated, scan jobs can fail.
The Services window opens.
If the error persists, continue to the next step.
Step 8: Temporarily disable firewall software on the computer
Firewall software helps block threats from outside your network, but some settings or configurations can block communication with network printers. Use the Print and Scan Doctor to identify and temporarily disable firewall software on your computer.
Figure : Troubleshoot Firewalls in the drop-down menu
Figure : Example of the Troubleshooting Firewalls window
Step 9: Try other scanning options
Use these workarounds to scan if the previous steps did not resolve the issue. Some workarounds might be unavailable depending on the printer. Try one of the other workarounds if the first method you tried did not work.
Scan with the Windows Scan app (Windows 10)
Use the Scan app for Windows 10 to scan a photo or document <also failed>
Suddenly there are light gray shaded areas on the bottom of scans. Could this be the bulb? OR something on the uderside of the scanbed? I have cleaned the top of the glass and the backing. Appears on a white sheet of paper so IMO it's no somehting on the backing.
There is no paper jammed in the printer
The printer is not able to take a paper, my be the the slide in the paper drawer does not rise.
